I have to admit, I love all seasons of the year. Being located along the Mid-Atlantic Flyway on the Chesapeake Bay, different bird species travel through our area depending on the month of the year.
Winter time means ducks to me, and along with those a few shore birds that are little expected. Now that the year is winding down, I’m able to get back what I love which is spending time outdoors in search of my avian friends. I had heard of the return of a pair of Snow Buntings at North Point State Park and I was finally able to find some time on my return from Conowingo Dam to head out to the rocky point to see if I could find them.
Along with them were a few shorebirds that aren’t usually around this time of year.
Not to be bested by the sandpipers, a pair of Semipalmated plovers were foraging along the rocks.
The best part of this time of year is that be comes DUCK SEASON ! Love ducks, ducks are awesome. Can’t wait to play with the ducks. Along with ducks are funky Mergansers. This pair of female Red breasted Mergansers were not as timid as they usually are when I see them. Swimming in tandem I was able to get a great capture of them.
It was wonderful to be back at some bird photography. Can’t wait for many more hours out there in the freezing cold with our winter feathered friends.
