Project 365/304 – Rock Textures

The Potomac River gorge dates about 600 million years old. In more the more recent 5 million years, water has traveled through cracks in the rock in a Mather Gorge formation, creating a small canyon with the Potomac river. Beautiful rocks, filled with quartz and mica encompass the landscape and quickly disappear when one walks further away from the river.

Natural beauty that has stood the test of time and will be present for a millennium more. The stories these rocks could tell. The countless footsteps that have walked over these rocks. Leaving nothing, not even a trace.

“Steadfast Seas and Mountains

The lofty mountains and the seas,
Being mountains, being seas,
Both exist and are real.
But frail as flowers are the lives of men,
Passing phantoms of this world.”

― Reiko ChibaHiroshige’s Tokaido in Prints and Poetry
