Project 365/268 – Jellies!

A field trip was due to re-ignite the creative juices. Hearing that there is a Jelly fish invasion at the National Aquarium in Baltimore I headed up there for a morning visit.

They have a really interesting question “How does a creature survive without a brain?” Jelly fish are actually plankton and don’t have bones, a brain, or a heart.ย Predatory creatures of the sea that have survived for millions of years, these gooey sea animals dine on zooplanton (microscoptic floating animals.)

They are super cool creatures, but from growing up near Florida beaches, I know that you don’t want to be touched by a tentacle. It burns!!

Men go abroad to wonder at the heights of mountains, at the huge waves of the sea, at the long courses of the rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motions of the stars, and they pass by themselves without wondering.

  1. Beautiful photos! But in response to your question, another question. Why should jellyfish be any different than humans? Humans may have brains, but most refuse to put forth the effort to use it.

  2. Beautiful shots and creatures, they do have a wicked sting though. What camera were you using to take this? the clarity is amazing.
