Birds that is. It’s the fall migration season and rumor had it that birds heading south were stopping through Maryland this week.
A friend and I went to Governor bridge Natural Area in search for some migratory warblers. Some serious shrubbery stalking was planned.
And stalked we did. Standing and waiting in the brush, waiting for the birds to show themselves.
I had never seen so many Catbirds, Red Eye Vireos, and Ruby Throated Hummingbirds at one place before. They kept us well distracted while we kept an eye out for the needle in a haystack.
The Canada Warbler (the yellow one) only showed itself quite briefly and even my friend missed it. It was a new bird to me, and I was fortunate to see it and to be quick on the draw.
We saw 25 species overall in about two and half hours. Not bad for standing in one spot. See..patience does pay for those that wait.
Patience, persistence and perspiration make an unbeatable combination for success.
